The Sanctuary of Eagle River is a growing congregation with new people, and some long established saints. Set in the Chugach Mountains with several lakes and rivers, our area is what many people think of when they imagine “The Final Frontier”. Our church building sits at the foot of Mt. Baldy and across the street from a float plan lake!
Our Ministry Area
30,000 people live in our area, and an Army/Air Force base called JBER borders us to the South. Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city of 250k, is 20 min away with all the conveniences and entertainment of other cities. People here are generally practical, unfussy, and straight speaking, though there are people from all over the world here also.
Skiing, ice fishing, snow machines, sledding, snow shoeing, and dog sledding are just some of the fun under the Winter’s Northern Lights. Berry picking, fishing, hunting, canoeing, hiking, and camping are some of Summer’s fun in the Midnight Sun.
How We Work
Ours is a church of teamwork and systems. We have 8 teams that accomplish the church vision. Our systems include using Planning Center, a shared online drive of resources, and regular team meetings with a plan.
We develop people, as disciples first and then in ministry and personal success. We don’t believe in the “one hero” leadership model, instead opting to recruit teams and plan together. We believe that early involvement for new people helps in discipleship. Levels of involvement increase as people’s commitments increase.
Bible studies are a priority, and we train people to teach them well. We’ve organized our teaching calendar to cover all the knowledge and experiences needed to become a disciple in one year.
All the gifts of the Spirit have been experienced at The Sanctuary during the Seagraves’ tenure. Prayer precedes everything here, and we consistently meet for prayer meetings midweek.
